Penny Mitchell & Sue Trollip have written a very clever book, for well, dummies :) Have you ever had a question you’ve been too emabarrassed to ask about modern technology? Don’t know your google from your garmin, your e-reader from your iphone? I know that the influx of new gadgets, apps and ways of communicating can be daunting for some – I even battle to remember where I’ve saved an app on my ipad, yet a four-year-old finds it in a jiffy! And they can’t even read!
Going Global – Technology made Simple, has been written just for you or that family member who always calls you to ask how to insert a pic into an email… It’s been written to encourage all those who are secretly overwhelmed or tempted by the wonders of this technological age and features baby steps on conquering cell phones, computers, e-readers and lots more. It also explores and explains social media phenomena like Facebook and Twitter.

Going Global - Technology Made Simple
Going Global – Technology made Simple by Penny Mitchell and Sue Trollip is the book you always wanted to have at hand at those moments when the relentless march of technology tended to defeat you, or at least, leave you behind.
By publishing this handy helpmeet, Penny and Sue have done the man or woman in the street a great service. To be honest, we never like to admit that we don’t know how to operate a piece of apparatus that a child of eight finds straightforward. But this book has at last filled the gap. In their own light-hearted yet painstaking style, the authors have achieved a painless way for all those (whisper it) technologically challenged folks to educate themselves on many of the facts of modern life.
The book includes chapters on cell-phones, computers – plus the mysteries of Google and Skype, e-readers, online banking, Twitter, blogs, Facebook, and one on how to operate GPS devices. Alongside all these, there are sensible hints and warnings to do with health, safety, and manners while operating them.
It is clear that Sue and Penny have researched their subject thoroughly. The book is up to date – though how long it will remain so is anyone’s guess … (No doubt, the authors have foreseen this and plan further issues.) It is worth a read if only to refresh one’s self on details of the latest gadgets and ‘apps’, and to have a chuckle or two while doing so.
I can see the time coming that people who don’t secrete this book in handbag or briefcase may be regarded as under-dressed. Certainly, any reference bookshelf worthy of the name must contain a copy.
